No More Singing in the Shower

Putting your thoughts down in a blog that nobody reads is a lot like singing in the shower. You don't have to worry about embarrassing yourself and everything you write seems so smart and right on.

A chance encounter with an old acquaintance may have brought my singing in the shower to a grinding halt -- at least for a few days. I ran into Steve Taylor, the editor of the internet newspaper (I-Paper) known as the Rio Grande Guardian at the opening of the Democratic campaign headquarters in Harlingen (yes, there are actually enough Democrats in Harlingen to have a headquarters). I should point out that Steve was there as a journalist, and I was there as a Democrat reveling in the afterglow of the Springfield speeches by Barack Obama and his new VP teammate, Joe Biden.

I happened to mention to Steve that Merced and I are going to Denver today to be a witness and participant in history at the Democratic national convention. Half joking, I said maybe I will do a little blogging from Denver. I was actually completely joking since nobody ever reads Nailing Jello on the Wall except my wife (occasionally) and my kids (but only two out of three of them). Because of the fickleness of my vast readership, I have been pretty sporadic about my blogging and maybe a little too transparent with my thoughts. In other words, jello nailing has been a little like singing in the shower.

Well, Steve actually threatened to put a link to my blog on the Guardian. If he looks at it (and has a good night's sleep and an opportunity to think), he may withdraw his threat. But, on the off chance he carries out his bluff, I will try to bring a little insight and observation from the outskirts of the convention without embarrassing my kids too badly (they are actually used to it but that doesn't mean they have to like it and I am sure they don't).

I must admit, I am disappointed. You comment on your lack of readership...and THEN you comment on the potential for a much greater readership due to your unique status as a blogger from the Rio Grande Valley attending the Democratic National Convention. However, you have yet to post information from the convention for those of us unable to attend. I would love to hear your comments on the differing speeches. Perhaps even a multi-post series on each of the days you were able to attend and what the overall experience was like.
