More DJT Day 2 - A lesson in global economics ...

Perhaps the biggest applause lines in President Trump's inaugural address were his promises to always put America and American jobs and American workers first -- always.

He said, "The oath of office I take today is an oath of allegiance to all Americans. ... we’ve enriched foreign industry at the expense of American industry ... One by one, the factories shuttered and left our shores, with not even a thought about the millions upon millions of American workers left behind. ... From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land. From this moment on, it’s going to be America First. Every decision ... will be made to benefit American workers and American families. We must protect our borders from the ravages of other countries making our products ... and destroying our jobs. ... I will fight for you with every breath in my body – and I will never, ever let you down. ... We will follow two simple rules: Buy American and Hire American."

Here's the rub and the problem with those words.  Remember, it was promises just like that which suckered millions of middle class Americans who used to work in those now "shuttered factories" and persuaded them to vote for Trump. They either did not know or possibly did not care that DJT has made a fortune "hiring foreign" and "buying foreign" for years with his Trump-branded clothing made in China or "Hecho en Mexico". Even Melania (probably on her husband's advice and with his assistance) arranged for her line of watches and jewelry to be made in China so she could advertise and sell them on QVS at a discount.

The difference is that yesterday Trump was speaking as the President of the United States to thousands of those same innocent but gullible suckers who voted for him and traveled to Washington to "rub shoulders" with this man of the people. How did that work out for you guys? These men and women stood in the shadow of the Capitol and heard their leader repeat his commitment to "Buy American" and "Hire American". They stood there in their "Make America Great Again" caps made in China, Vietnam, and Bangladesh -- unless, of course, they chose to pay 50% more for that American-made cap (http://nypost.com/2017/01/21/trump-supporters-horrified-to-learn-their-hats-werent-made-in-us/).  It's kind of like all of those same folks living on fixed incomes and budgets that do their shopping at Walmart to take advantage of all those less expensive foreign-made and foreign-grown products.

I guess DJT must have forgotten that part of the economics lesson when he was writing his speech. After all, he was trying to keep it under 20 minutes so he could get on to pulling the rug out from under the feet of those MAGA cap-wearing Americans by cancelling their health insurance. Come on, man.
